Petterm doesn’t process direct product-for-product exchanges through the storefront. The reason is operational simplicity — direct exchanges create inventory and refund timing problems that slow everything down. Instead, here’s the simple workaround.

How exchanges work in practice

  1. Place a new order for the product you actually want, today.
  2. Return the original product for a refund (see How to start a return).

You don’t have to wait for the return to process before placing the new order — the two run in parallel.

Why this is better than a direct exchange

  • Faster delivery of the product you want. The new order ships within 1 business day. A direct exchange would wait for the return to be received, inspected, and re-shipped.
  • Simpler timing. You know exactly what’s happening and when.
  • Refund flexibility. You can choose store credit or original payment refund for the return — useful if you want to apply the refund to other Petterm products later.

Exchange-style discounts

If you’re switching to a different Petterm product because the first one didn’t work for your pet, mention it in the return email. We can sometimes offer a small credit toward the new product as a goodwill gesture — especially if it’s clear we steered you wrong on the first choice.

Switching between subscriptions

If you have an active Subscribe & Save subscription and want to switch to a different product on the same subscription, you don’t need to cancel and re-subscribe. From your account → My Subscriptions → select the subscription → Swap product. The discount carries over.

This is different from an exchange — it’s a subscription product change, which we do support directly.

Common reasons people ask about exchanges

  • “I bought hairball powder for my cat but I have a dog, can I exchange for tear stain?” — yes, do the place-new-order-and-return flow above.
  • “My dog has muscle gain but really needs tear stain instead.” — same flow. We’ll refund the muscle gain.
  • “I ordered the wrong subscription frequency.” — you don’t need an exchange. Just change the frequency on the existing subscription.
