Should I give supplements with food or without?
Powders — always with food
Sprinkle our powders (Probiotic Hairball Control, Tear Stain) directly onto wet or dry food at mealtime. There are two reasons:
- Better absorption. Many of the active ingredients — fiber, probiotics, lutein — work better when the digestive system is already in “meal mode.”
- Easier on the stomach. An empty stomach plus a new supplement is the most common cause of mild GI upset in the first week. Pairing with food prevents this.
It doesn’t matter which meal — morning, evening, or split across both works fine. Pick the one that fits your routine, and stick with it.
Soft Chews — any time
Muscle Gain Soft Chews can be given any time of day. Most dogs treat them like a regular treat, so they’re a useful tool for training sessions, post-walk rewards, or splitting the daily dose into two smaller “treats.”
If you have a particularly sensitive stomach, you can still give the chew alongside a meal. But for most dogs, this isn’t necessary.
What about splitting the dose?
For larger dogs taking 3–4 chews per day, splitting the daily dose into morning and evening servings can help spread absorption. For powders, give the full daily dose at one meal — splitting a sachet adds complexity without benefit.
