Petterm Probiotic Hairball Control Powder is formulated for healthy adult cats — generally 1 year and up. Here’s how to think about kittens and senior cats.

Kittens (under 12 months)

We don’t recommend starting kittens on the powder without your vet’s go-ahead. Two reasons:

  1. Hairballs aren’t a kitten problem. Most kittens haven’t accumulated enough swallowed hair through grooming to need digestive support yet.
  2. A kitten’s gut microbiome is still developing. Introducing a probiotic blend during this phase can affect the natural balance that’s still being established.

If your kitten is already hairballing (rare, usually only in extremely long-haired breeds), talk to your vet about whether to start the powder early.

Senior cats (10 years and up)

The powder is generally well-suited to senior cats. Older cats often have slower digestion and tend to swallow more hair (they groom more, while moving less), so the formula is doing exactly what they need.

A few extras for senior cats:

  • Start at half-dose for the first week even if they weigh 10+ lb. Senior digestion is more sensitive to change.
  • Monitor water intake. The fiber content draws water; if your cat isn’t drinking enough, the formula won’t work as well. Switch to wet food if you can.
  • If your cat is on prescription medication for kidney, thyroid, or heart conditions, ask your vet before starting.

Mid-adult cats (1–10 years)

This is the population the formula is designed for. Follow the standard dosing on the label and you’re set.
